Dance Workshop!
If you’d like to have a go at our dances, we are holding a workshop day on Sunday February 28th. We will be teaching some of our dances in the morning. In the afternoon, Lisa Sture, from Devon will be teaching us some Dartmoor Step Dancing. If you’re interested in either or both of these, please get in touch.
Babylon are a border morris dance team, based in the small Dorset village of Corscombe. We were founded in 1995 after several members of other local morris teams attended a workshop organised by Jed Dunn, and taught by Steve Cunio and Andy Anderson.
At first, we concentrated on the four dances taught at that initial workshop, which all had their roots in the traditional dances as collected in the early years of the twentieth century. Our first performance, consisting of the four dances we’d learnt by then, was on Easter Saturday in Sherborne, Dorset.
Since then the team has danced at the South Petherton, Chippenham and Cheltenham fetivals in England as well as the Zagreb International Folk Festival in Croatia, various morris events round the country and, of course, in our local towns and villages and outside our local pubs.
